Über Scott

I help teams solve hard problems in complex audio, video, and real-time systems — the kind of work where performance matters and the stakes are high. I spent eleven years at Adobe where I worked on the After Effects GPU rendering pipeline and scripting engine, and five years at Native Instruments designing reactive frameworks and a declarative programming language. I come from an arts background and am passionate about creative software, so I'm used to connecting customer-facing realities (think: millisecond timing differences and control expressiveness) with deep backend details (think: cache optimization, thread latency, graph optimization).

These days I take on focused freelance projects: architecture consulting, performance optimization, legacy codebase modernization, and building real-time systems from scratch. I love a green field, but I have a decade and a half of experience incorporating modern patterns into legacy codebases. I love helping teams build good processes that fit their needs, and build workable plans for daunting projects.

I also have a parallel life as a sound artist and technical producer for artists and musicians, where i build realtime control systems, audio and video processing pipelines, and generative systems that have shown at institutions like Gagosian, FACT, Wiels, MOMA, and HKW.

    Engineering lead and software architect for PeaceCore, a real-time generative video installation spanning 26 screens. Built a real-time video engine that queries and sequences clips from a 20,000-hour archival database by metadata, compositing dynamic streams across all screens with real-time compositional logic spanning frame-level transitions to multi-hour narrative arcs. (TouchDesigner, Python, SuperCollider, ) Built a web-based deployment and monitoring tool for remote operation, triage, and live modification during exhibitions. Installed at Gagosian (NewYork), FACT (Liverpool), Wiels (Brussels), and ArtSpace (Sydney) over 1.5 years, running up to 24 hours continuously in public viewwith zero unplanned downtime.
