Software engineer with a background in backend systems, DevOps, and bioinformatics.
I've worked in both research and industry: as a software engineer on production backend systems handling customer master data for an international company, and earlier as a researcher building data and ML pipelines in a bioinformatics context.
For the past two years I've also been building my own projects and coding with AI tools as part of my regular workflow. I work in whatever language the context calls for rather than sticking to one, and I'm used to a "you build it, you run it" approach: owning my services in production, managing deployments and migrations, and handling issues that come up and resolving them.
My experience includes:
- improving and running a backend system for customer master data across a large microservice architecture, where services communicated over REST and Kafka
- working on a migration of data services to GCP: evaluating data solutions (including the decision between Pub/Sub and Kafka), reworking deployment pipelines, and setting up the first environment
- setting up CI/CD and containerized deployments with GitHub Actions, Docker and Kubernetes, including monitoring and alerting in Datadog
- building a Python pipeline to extract and structure biology data from messy source material, and benchmarking ML algorithms in a research context
On my own I've also shipped two projects end to end:
- Kennzeichenkarte.de, an interactive map of German licence plate districts, powered by a Python data pipeline. Open source and live, with daily users.
- reDream, a minimal, privacy-first dream journal for Android, built with Flutter and published on the Play Store.
