So, what does a digital architect do?

What does a normal architect do? Say you want to build a house. You probably do not go ahead placing one brick on top of another and hope you don’t forget an important thing, like the electricity. You ask for professional help during the planning process. In comes: the architect.

So let’s move on to your corporate house. You made the decision to make your company ready for the digital age. But this time you did not hire an architect. You bought some technology and put it in place - electricity is safe. And then - the process fails. Machines do not speed up work, do not result in higher output, are not used at all. But why? Where did it go wrong? Why is nobody jumping on your train towards the digital age?

Ask yourself: Did you consider to build in the stairs for your employees to advance? To learn the new skills needed to use these machines? To feel the excitement of these new ways of working?

The client was overwhelmed with what she thought she could achieve by using digital tools for herself and also for her clients.

Together with her I created a requirements document and we structured all of her ideas and wishes. Based on a framework that I built we created her Digital Business Model and a roadmap to achieve that.

The strategy part was supported by a coaching process where we worked through her barriers towards digital tools, her preferences how to use them and her capacities to gain new proficiencies. At the end of this process she gained the skill to determine herself what she needs from digital tools, how she can ask good questions to find out if the functionalities support her way of working and how she can exploit all the benefits these tools can give her.

The client determined problems in the data transfer with a middleman. I facilitated the process of determining the core of the problem and worked on a strategy to overcome the irregularities in the communication with both parties. I also helped implementing an early detection system to detect problems in the communication and spot patterns of problems with the transfer early. The system is successfully used to counter anomalies early and effective.

The client wanted to introduce a lean IT systems architecture that allowed for flexible on- and offboarding of rapidly changing users. Together we worked on a long term digital business strategy that allowed for some form of future planning, but that was also flexible enough to account for technological and societal changes. I also accompanied the client during the implementation process as a project facilitator. To this day I am available as an advisor for all the changes to the strategy necessary and requested.
